          Nathan Schuster earns Stephen T. Badin medal


          Nathan Schuster was awarded the Stephen T. Badin medal, the highest honor given to a member of the senior class at Badin High, at the conclusion of the Baccalaureate Mass on Wednesday, June 10, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Liberty Township.

          Schuster is the son of Andy and Colleen Schuster of Hamilton and a graduate of St. Peter in Chains School. He will attend Miami University and major in Accounting.

          “Nathan was ‘all in’ at Badin High School and did a terrific job here,” Badin Principal Brian Pendergest said. “Whether it was handling the morning announcements, representing the class, or even wearing the Ram costume at various events, Nathan was front and center as a member of the Class of 2020.”

          Four students shared the Archbishop McNicholas medal, which honors the top academic performer in the class. Will Giffen, Nathan Hogan, Adam Salek and Sophie Tischler were co-valedictorians as the No. 1 students over a four-year period.

          Giffen is the son of Michael and Marie Giffen of Liberty Township and a graduate of Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School. He will attend Washington University in St. Louis and major in Mathematics and Computer Science.

          Hogan is the son of Dennis Hogan of Fairfield Township and a graduate of St. Gabriel Consolidated School. He will attend the University of Leeds in England.

          Salek is the son of Christine Salek of West Chester and Mark Salek of Liberty Township and a graduate of Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School. He will attend the University of Notre Dame and major in Psychology and Global Affairs.

          Tischler is the daughter of Greg and Amy Tischler of Hamilton and a graduate of St. Peter in Chains School. She will attend Louisiana State University and major in Biology.

          Hannah Werner earned the Archbishop Alter medal, honoring the highest contribution to faith life at Badin. Hannah is the daughter of Justin and Susan Werner of Fairfield Township and a graduate of Sacred Heart School. She will attend Xavier University, majoring in Exercise Science.

          Kaitlyn Robinson was awarded the Archbishop Leibold medal, honoring the highest level of service to the school and the community. Kaitlyn is the daughter of Scott and Emily Robinson of Hamilton and a graduate of Talawanda Middle School. She will attend Indiana University and major in Interior Design.

          Other members of Badin’s Top 10, who were recognized at a Top 10 dinner on June 3, included No. 5 Jack Feenstra (St. Ann), who will attend Purdue University and major in Engineering; two tied for No. 6 – Colin Crank (St. Peter in Chains), who will attend the University of Cincinnati and major in Finance and Interdisciplinary Biology; and Emily Sauer (St. Peter in Chains), who will attend Ohio State University and major in Biology; No. 8, Caitlin Savage (Lakota Plains), who will attend Purdue University and major in Biomedical Engineering; No. 9, Ellie King (St. Ignatius), who will attend the University of Cincinnati and major in Nursing; and No. 10, Andrea Clark (St. Peter in Chains), who will attend Kent State University and major in Biomedical Sciences.

          Badin graduated 148 students in the Class of 2020, with graduation ceremonies taking place on Thursday and Friday, June 11-12, four students at a time in Mulcahey Gym at Badin High.
